Communal is looking for a dynamic Senior Designer to thoughtfully guide the visual brand identities and customer experiences for our brand partners. You will be responsible for leading the visual identity development for early-stage startups and small businesses with big visions.

Communal is a full-service creative agency bringing startup brands to life with beautiful design, smart copy, and compelling visuals. At Communal, each project is approached strategically, where we actively create tactile and engaging solutions for new-to-market product launches that put the customer first. Our Senior Designer will help lead and champion that effort, by building differentiated and custom brand identities to propel our clients forward. We’re looking for someone who has a pulse on consumer trends, a passion for design-forward experiences, and a holistic viewpoint that spans online and offline.

You’ll be excited by working across a range of industries (CPG, Wellness, Health, Retail, DTC) and bring an eye for emerging trends and defining new visual experiences. You are a natural collaborator, supporting fellow designers on the team, lending a hand, and a go-to resource. You thrive in a dynamic environment, and enjoy working directly with clients to find creative solutions to any challenge. This role reports to our founder & creative director, and you’ll be working directly with our dedicated team of designers, strategists, copywriters, and brand managers, as well as directly with our clients to ensure communications are flowing, deadlines are outlined, and we’re creating space for exceptional thinking and successful doing.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Leading the visual identity development on client projects, including but not limited to - development of creative concept moodboards, logomarks, color palette, typography, iconography, art direction, visual guidelines, and brand toolkit
  • Working with the entire Communal team, from copywriters and designers to project management and client services
  • Working directly with clients to translate their brand goals into tangible creative experiences, including executing on brand activations: site design, packaging systems, photoshoots, and the creation of content across channels
  • Collaborating with the creative team to concept and execute a full consumer experience, from brainstorming themes to fully-realized assets
  • Involved throughout the process, from participating in brand development and creative sessions, to executing launch assets and campaign concepts
  • Presenting and collaborating externally and internally, for client meetings and internal working sessions

What we're looking for:

  • 6 years of experience, with a minimum of 3 of those years in brand work
  • Experience in building brands from the ground up, including logo development and art direction
  • A creative perspective that’s always informed by strategy
  • A love for creating that thrives in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to prioritize effectively while maintaining the highest standards
  • Collaborative approach that shares with and learns from fellow team members
  • Strong communication and presentation skills—you know how to sell your work
  • The ability to generate fresh and varied ideas and recommend solutions, both on your own and as part of a group brainstorm
  • Direct experience working with other designers, strategists, and/or copywriters
  • Direct digital experience a major plus
  • Bonus points for startup experience
